The class started a lesson called the rise of democracy. Democracy is a form of government that provides people an equal oppurtunity to vote for whomever or whatever they want. While studying this lesson, students learned that the United States did not have a great democratic system in the early 1800s. They had a democratic republic which was when the leaders of the state voted for people of the state. This system was made up of Caucasian men who had most freedom and rights. To better understand the democratic rebublic the class was divided into groups and was assinged to create a project that answered the essential questions which were "how should we define democracy?" and how democratic was the United States in the early 1800s?" Completing these projects helped enhance the comprehension of students in the class on democracy.
